Art Lessons - March 16-20, 2020

Here are three optional art activities for different grade levels included this week. If you would like to post artwork in the comments section, I would love to see it! :)

Lesson #1

Grades K-2

Draw a Sea Turtle Habitat

Materials Needed:

Paper, pencil, eraser, something to color with (crayons, colored pencils, paint)

Task:

Sea turtles live in the ocean! Follow this step by step video to draw a sea turtle. Then add the background in using your imagination!

Lesson #2

Grades K-5

Observational Drawing

Materiels Needed:

Paper, pencil, eraser, piece of fruit or any other object that is interesting to draw.

Task

Watch this video by art teacher, Kit Lang.

Create 4 light sketches of your object. Choose one of your sketches to make into a bigger drawing. If you have crayons, markers or paint, observe and add color to your picture.

OPTIONAL

Post a picture of your creation in the comments section of this blog! I’d LOVE to see it :)

Lesson #3

Grades 3-5

Art History Inspiration: "Washington Crossing the Delaware"

Materials Needed:

Paper, pencil, eraser, colored pencils, crayons or watercolors, optional: pen to outline

Watch this 3 minute video about the painting “Washington Crossing the Delaware” by Emanuel Leutz.

Task

Create a picture about an important moment in your life. Include these details. Try not to use words - only pictures.

- Who was there?

- Where were you?

- What time of day was it? What was the weather like?

- What was in the foreground/middle ground/background?

- Can you add a special ‘hidden symbol’ somewhere in the picture that is important to the event (like Emanuel Leutz’s Morning Star?)

OPTIONAL

Post a picture of your creation down below in the comments section! I’d LOVE to see it :).
